About Us
Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption is a registered charity and not-for-profit incorporated association
Operating since 2006.
We are 100% volunteer run by a small group of dedicated people who are passionate about animal welfare and give their time and energy generously to help save lives and make a difference. So you can be sure that all money raised for the charity goes directly to the cause – to caring for our animals in care and making it possible to be a voice for animals in the community.
We have Deductible Gift Recipient status so all donations of $2 and over are tax deductible. We rely totally on our own fundraising efforts and the generosity of the public.
We are committed to a No Kill policy. We don’t operate a shelter, rather our rescued pets are lovingly cared for by dedicated volunteer foster carers in their own homes, and we look after our animals as long as necessary to find them a loving forever home.
Our mission is to:
- Rescue and re-home companion animals from Death Row in pounds, and other homeless animals;
- Short circuit the surrender process, and thus reduce the number of animals reaching Death Row, by educating owners about viable alternatives to surrender, including short term emergency foster care, assistance with locating pet friendly accommodation and assistance with re-homing;
- Educate the public about responsible pet ownership, and their rights and responsibilities under the Companion Animal Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and other relevant legislation;
- Promote an understanding of the valuable role companion animals play in people’s lives and the broader community; and
- Promote the prevention of cruelty to animals.
Our re-homed animals are vet checked, vaccinated, micro-chipped, wormed, flea treated and de-sexed, and our dogs are heart worm tested. We have also commenced FIV testing of our cats.
We offer a minimum 4 week trial period with all of our re-homed animals and will take them back if they are not compatible. We pet match potential new owners to ensure an appropriate match with lifestyle factors, to ensure a safe and suitable home, and to facilitate a forever home.
Our wish is for a loving home for every pet and no more cruelty to animals.
